Salisbury Women Claim 2024-25 NJAC Swimming & Diving Title

HAMPTON, VA --- Salisbury surged over the final day of competition to capture the 2024-25 NJAC Swimming & Diving Championship trophy, its first-ever women's swimming title as part of any conference in program history. The Sea Gulls surpassed defending champion Mary Washington, finishing with 1419 points to UMW's 1394.5 over the three and a half day meet at the Hampton Aquaplex.

Rowan placed third and Montclair State and Kean rounded out the top five.

The final night of competition saw strong swims in each event. In the 200 butterfly, Bridget Wilson of Mary Washington took first place with a strong swim, finishing in 2:05.81. Salisbury’s Sadie Hebert claimed second place with a time of 2:06.59, while her teammate Sierra Wakefield placed third in 2:07.02.
 
The 100 freestyle saw Rourke Peralta of Montclair State win the event, clocking in at 51.19 seconds to hit an NCAA ‘B’ cut. Kean’s Braelyn Wilson finished second in 51.63, while UMW’s Spera Moy-Jacobs placed third in 51.69.
 
In the 200 breaststroke, Salisbury’s Sydney McCallie delivered a strong performance to take first place with a time of 2:18.68. Her teammate Maddie Powell finished second in 2:20.43, while Bridget Zagrobelny of UMW secured third place with a time of 2:20.70. Both McCallie and Powell hit ‘B’ cut times.
 
The 200 backstroke was won by Rowan’s Ella Pennington, who finished first in 1:58.59 to earn another ‘B’ cut for the weekend. Phoebe Root of UMW claimed second place in 2:06.22, while her teammate Nora McMullen followed closely behind, finishing third in 2:06.57.
 
Rowan’s Kaitlyn Crouthamel secured a decisive win in the 1650 freestyle with a time of 17:28.47. Alisa Dovbnya of Kean finished second in 17:37.01, while Montclair State’s Julie Tiedemann took third place with a time of 17:37.36.
 
Salisbury was holding a slim 12-point lead over defending champion Mary Washington heading into the final event of the weekend, the 400 free relay. Salisbury claimed victory with a time of 3:30.67 to seal its NJAC trophy win. Kean finished just behind in 3:30.86, while Rowan secured third place in 3:31.00.
