Rowan's Cannon, Kean's Gilman, Ramapo's Tallent, NJCU's Del Rio Earn NJAC Baseball Weekly Honors

PITMAN --- The New Jersey Athletic Conference announced its baseball weekly honors for the week ending April 14.
 

PLAYER OF THE WEEK
TYLER CANNON • Rowan University
Senior • Second Base • Clayton, NJ/Gloucester Catholic
 
Cannon is named NJAC Player of the Week after a strong week at the plate as Rowan went 3-2 in conference action. He hit .520 (13-25) with seven runs, four doubles, and four RBI, putting together a slugging percentage of .680 and on-base percentage of .536. He had multiple hits in all five games, including a 4-for-6 outing with a double and two RBI in a 20-5 win over Rutgers-Camden to snap a four-game losing streak. He also doubled in four of the five games. Cannon currently leads the NJAC with 18 hits in conference play while batting .391 against NJAC opponents.


PITCHER OF THE WEEK
JASON GILMAN • Kean University
Junior • Pitcher • Old Bridge, NJ/Old Bridge
 
Gilman collects NJAC Pitcher of the Week honors after hurling a complete-game win over #12/8 Montclair State on Sunday. He struck out 12, scattered seven hits, and allowed just two runs in the 5-2 win. Gilman currently leads all NJAC pitchers with 33 conference-only strikeouts. Opposing NJAC batters are hitting just .152 against him as he ranks second in opposing batting average.


ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
JACK TALLENT • Ramapo College
Freshman • Outfield/Second Base • South Amboy, NJ/Ranney
 
Tallent earns NJAC Rookie of the Week for the second time in three weeks after leading Ramapo to a 4-1 week with a big split against #18 Rowan on Saturday. He batted .429 (9-21) with a double, three RBI, and three walks. He hit safely in each of the five games with three multi-hit efforts, including a 3-for-5 showing in a 4-3 extra-inning win over Rowan. The rookie is currently tied for third with 17 hits in NJAC play while ranking ninth in conference-only batting average (.405).


ROOKIE PITCHER OF THE WEEK
RICKY DEL RIO • New Jersey City University
Freshman • Pitcher • Edison, NJ/St. Thomas Aquinas
 
Del Rio is named NJAC Rookie Pitcher of the Week after a solid week on the mound for NJCU. He made three appearances, tossing a total of 8.0 innings and earning the save in conference action against TCNJ. He did not allow an earned run across two NJAC games, rendering Rutgers-Newark hitless over two innings and then picking up a two-inning save in a 6-4 win over TCNJ while striking out two. Earlier in the week, he threw 4.0 innings in a no-decision to St. Joseph’s (LI) in nonconference action.
