Rutgers-Newark's Chromulak, Kean's Freese and Quinn Earn NJAC Men's Volleyball Weekly Honors

PITMAN --- The New Jersey Athletic Conference announced its men's volleyball honors for the week ending Jan. 28.
 


PLAYER OF THE WEEK
MARTIN CHROMULAK • Rutgers-Newark
5th Year • Outside Hitter • Garfield, NJ/Garfield
 
Chromulak earns his first NJAC Player of the Week honor of the 2024 season after leading Rutgers-Newark to a 2-1 week. He averaged 4.22 kills and 4.61 points while hitting .403 for the week. He added four digs, three blocks, and an ace. He opened the week with nine kills and a solo block in a loss to New Paltz. He then put together a stellar day on Saturday with a career-high 23 kills while hitting .455 in a four-set win over SUNY Poly. In the other match on Saturday, he added six kills while hitting .417, along with three digs and a solo block in a three-set sweep of Hilbert. Chromulak currently leads the NJAC in kills (4.27 k/s) and points (4.68 p/s), and is second in hitting percentage (.400).



DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
JACK FREESE • Kean University
Sophomore • Middle Blocker • Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough
 
Freese collects his first NJAC Defensive Player of the Week honor after a strong week on the block. He tallied 10 blocks across three matches, including three in an NJAC win over NJCU. He added four in a three-set sweep of Elmira and three more in a four-set loss to Hobart. Freese also averaged 2.27 kills and 2.73 points per set, putting up a week high of 10 kills in the win over Elmira while hitting .556 for the match. He added eight against NJCU and seven against Hobart. Freese currently ranks second in the NJAC in blocks (1.00 b/s), sixth in hitting percentage (.224), seventh in kills (2.09 k/s), and ninth in points (2.65 p/s).



ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
TYLER QUINN • Kean University
Freshman • Libero • Mechanicsburg, PA/Cumberland Valley
 
Quinn is named NJAC Rookie of the Week for the first time this year after anchoring Kean to a 2-1 week, including the first NJAC win of the season over NJCU. The freshman libero averaged 2.82 digs per set, putting up a week-high 14 scoops in the four-set win over the Gothic Knights. He added eight more in a three-set sweep of Elmira and nine digs in a four-set loss to Hobart. The rookie currently ranks fourth in the NJAC in digs (2.83 d/s).
