GLASSBORO, N.J. – The Salisbury University football team won its third game in a row and delivered head coach
Sherman Wood the 200th victory of his career, powering through the Rowan Profs, 35-20, in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) matchup on Saturday afternoon at Coach Richard Wackar Stadium.
Wood becomes just the 12th active football coach across all levels of the NCAA to reach 200 career wins. Wood, who began his career at Bowie State in 1993 before arriving in Salisbury in 1999, joins a shortlist of college football's winningest bosses that includes Alabama's Nick Saban, North Carolina's Mack Brown, and LSU's Brian Kelly.
Wood is Salisbury's all-time winningest coach, with 19 postseason appearances (including 18 consecutive through the 2022 season) and 10 NCAA Tournament appearances. His Sea Gulls own nine conference championships, with five NJAC titles since joining as an associate member in 2015. He has been named conference Coach of the Year six times, including three times in the NJAC (2015, 2019, 2021) and was the 2011 AFCA Region Coach of the Year.
Under his mentorship, 18 players have been named D3football.com All-Americans and nine have been named AFCA All-Americans. Forty have been named D3football.com All-Region players; 17 have been named conference Players of the Year; and four have earned conference Rookie of the Year honors. Wood's players have earned a total of 304 all-conference selections, including 100 in the NJAC from 2015 to present.
