PITMAN, NJ --- The College of New Jersey freshman designated hitter
Ryan Goodall (Toms River, NJ/Toms River East) and Rowan University senior pitcher
Drew Ryback (Mantua, NJ/Clearview Regional) have been named the New Jersey Athletic Conference Baseball Player of the Year and Pitcher of the Year respectively for the 2021 season.
Goodall accomplished the rare feat of not only being named Player of the Year, but the first-year player was also tabbed NJAC Rookie of the Year. Rowan righty
Zach Listro (Swedesboro, NJ/Kingsway Regional) earned the NJAC Fireman of the Year honor, which is awarded to the conference’s top relief pitcher.
Their selections highlighted the 36-member 2021 NJAC Baseball all-conference team which was announced on May 5. All selections were made via a vote of the league’s 10 head coaches and were based on conference-only statistics.
Goodall blasted onto the scene this season, leading all NJAC players in conference-only batting average (.500), conference-only slugging percentage (.982), and conference-only on-base percentage (.588). He drove in 22 runs, good for third among all conference players and belted 28 hits including six home runs (2nd in the NJAC). He was on fire in the final regular season weekend, batting .722 with a 1.556 slugging percentage and four home runs as he helped lift TCNJ to a four-game final weekend sweep. Those four wins propelled the Lions to a bye into the quarterfinal round of the NJAC Tournament. Overall on the season, Goodall batted .483 (2nd in the NJAC) with a league-leading .948 slugging percentage.
Ryback went 4-0 on the mound for the Profs in conference play, and was a leader on a pitching staff that led Rowan to a 17-1 NJAC regular season record and the top seed in the conference tournament. The fifth-year senior lefty was second among NJAC pitchers with 33 conference-only strikeouts and fourth with a conference-only 2.48 ERA; for the entire season, he struck out a league-high 47. He earned wins over Kean, NJCU, Rutgers-Camden, and TCNJ. Ryback sports a 22-3 career record with a 2.98 ERA and 163 strikeouts heading into his final postseason at Rowan.
Listro garned the Fireman of the Year honor after posting five saves in eight appearances in NJAC play. He put together a 2.45 ERA in 14.2 innings of relief, struck out 11, and opposing batters hit just .185 off of him. Listro earned saves against Kean, Rutgers-Newark, TCNJ, Stockton, and Montclair State this season. The fifth-year senior is 6-1 for his career with all five saves coming this season, and has struck out 49 in 58.2 career innings pitched.
Rowan University head coach
Mike Dickson was named the Jeff Albies NJAC Coach of the Year by his peers. Dickson led the 2021 Profs to a 19-3 overall record and a first-place regular season finish with a 17-1 mark in league play. Now in his seventh year at the helm of the Rowan program, Dickson has guided the Profs to an overall record of 170-77. He owns a 530-165 career coaching record including his nine seasons at the former Rowan College at Gloucester County (now Rowan College South Jersey).
