AFCA All-America
WACO, TX --- Wesley's Matt Gono and Kean's Darin Hungerford were named to the American Football Coaches Association All-America Team, announced by the AFCA on December 12.
Gono earned First Team accolades and Hungerford was named to the Second Team.
Gono is a three-time D3Football.com All-East Region honoree and a two-time All-Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) First Team award winner and a 2015 D3football.com All-America Honorable Mention. Gono was also a semifinalist for the Gagliardi Trophy.
Gono led the Wolverines to the best offense in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) with 5,295 total yards. He paved the way for sophomore running back and fellow All-ECAC First Team honoree E.J. Lee, who rushed for 1,582 yards and 22 touchdowns. With Gono guiding the way, Lee ranked 7th in rushing yards for all of DIII.
One of the best offensive lineman in the country regardless of division, all 32 NFL teams have been to Wesley's campus to see Gono play.
Hungerford continues to rack up the postseason honors as he was named the ECAC and NJAC Defensive Player of the Year, while earning first team honors with both conferences. In addition, he was named a first-team member of D3football.com All-East Region team. The senior finished with 125 tackles, 80 solo tackles, 17 tackles for loss and seven sacks. He led the NJAC in tackles per game (12.4) and total tackles. He is ranked third nationally in solo tackles, seventh in total tackles and 30th in tackles for loss.
He becomes the third player in school history to her All-American honors and the first since 1987.
