DOVER, DE–Wesley College debuted its new playing surface on September 19 during its home opener against Christopher Newport, unveiling the field in a ceremony prior to kickoff. Current head coach Mike Drass was honored with the naming of the field – Drass Field – and christened it with his 200th career win later in the afternoon with a 44-24 victory over CNU.
During pre-game ceremonies, Drass was joined on the field by Wesley College President Robert Clark and several others to reveal the new name of the field, and the Mayor of Dover Robin R. Christiansen declared Saturday as “Mike Drass Day.”
With his 200
th win on Saturday, Drass became one of just 15 active coaches to reach the milestone (including fellow NJAC head coach Rick Giancola at Montclair State). Drass became only the 74th head coach across all divisions of college football to reach 200 wins, and his .789 win percentage is eighth all-time among those with 200 wins.
Drass spoke at a post-game reception, where he deflected the credit of Wesley's success to all of those who had impacted the program over the years. He addressed his friends, his family, the community, his players, and his coaching staff, making special mention of Associate Head Coach Chip Knapp, who has been with the program during Drass’s entire tenure and all 200 wins.
