HERGET AND CERRETO SELECTED IN THE 2013 MLB DRAFT

SECAUCUS—Two NJAC baseball players were drafted in the 2013 Major League Baseball Amateur First-Year Player Draft on June 8. Kean senior right-handed pitcher Kevin Herget, the 2012-13 NJAC Male Athlete of the Year, was selected in the 39th round (pick no. 1,175) by the St. Louis Cardinals, while Ramapo senior right-handed pitcher P.J. Cerreto was selected in the 40th round (pick no. 1,215) by the Cincinnati Reds.

Herget becomes the sixth player in Kean program history to be chosen in the draft and the first since 2001.
Herget was named both an American Baseball Coaches Association All-American and a D3baseball.com All-American after leading his squad to the NJAC regular season championship, the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Championship, and an appearance in the NCAA Division III National Championship Tournament. 
Named both the NJAC and NJCBA Pitcher of the Year, he finished his collegiate career as Kean's all-time leader in pitching victories, innings pitched and strikeouts. This season he was second in the nation in strikeouts (106) and eighth in wins (10).

Cerreto finished his senior season with a 2-1 record on the mound. He recorded a 2.72 earned run average in six appearances. He finished with 60 strikeouts in just 39.2 innings pitched.
