FORMER ROWAN STANDOUT SCHWARTZ TO BE INDUCTED INTO THE SOUTH JERSEY BASEBALL HALL OF FAME

GLASSBORO– Former Rowan University left-hander Josh Schwartz will be inducted into the South Jersey Baseball Hall of Fame at the 52nd Annual Hot Stovers Baseball Club of South Jersey Baseball Awards Dinner on November 26.

The dinner will be held at Masso’s Columbus Manor in Williamstown, NJ at 2:00 PM. The seven inductees into the Hall of Fame include: Steve Van Note, infielder at Atlantic City High School; Ellwood Berint, pitcher from Cramer Hill in Camden, NJ; Ted Frett, pitcher from Woodrow Wilson High School; Joe Cruz, infielder from Overbrook High School; Larry Litwin, contributor from Camden, NJ; Chuck Ricci, pitcher from Shawnee High School and Schwartz. The All-South Jersey Baseball Team, scholarship award winners, Coach of the Year and Hot Stover of the Year will also be honored.

Schwartz pitched at Rowan from 2002-05.  During that time, he posted a 38-3 record, including 37 consecutive victories which is still the NCAA All-Divisions mark.  Schwartz produced a 2.03 earned run average (ERA) with 305 strikeouts in 315 innings.  He is the Profs’ all-time leader in career complete games (17), shutouts in a season (4) and career (8), victories in a season (13, 2004 and 2005) and career (38), consecutive victories (37) and career ERA (2.03)

Schwartz was named the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) and New Jersey Collegiate Baseball Association (NJCBA) Division II/III Pitcher of the Year in 2003, 2004 and 2005.  He was selected as the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Mid-Atlantic Pitcher of the Year (2005), NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Most Valuable Player (2005), Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Pitcher of the Year (2004) and National College Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Pitcher of the Year (2004).  Schwartz is a two time ABCA All-American First Team member (2004, 2005) and one time second teamer (2003).  He was named to the All-NJAC team and ABCA Mid-Atlantic All-Region first team in 2003, 2004 and 2005.

In 2005, Schwartz was selected by the St. Louis Cardinals with the 1276 pick in the 42nd round of the Major League Baseball Draft.  He is currently the pitching coach at Gloucester County College and works as a physical education teacher in the Deptford School District.
