EWING, N.J. - Athletes For a Better World (ABW) named TCNJ men's soccer's Conor Campbell as one of four male finalists for the Coach Wooden Citizenship Cup Award, as announced by the organization.
The prestigious award, named after legendary coach John Wooden, is given to one male and one female athlete at the professional, collegiate and high school levels who epitomize the highest standards of character, leadership and community service.
An economics major with a 3.9 GPA, Campbell is a member of both the Business and Economics International Honor Societies, and was most recently honored at the 2024 ESPYs for winning the Billie Jean King Youth Leadership Award for the positive impact he's had on inner-city children from Trenton, N.J.
During his high school career Campbell was a two-time United Soccer Coaches All-American on the field, and off the field was selected by the United Nations Division for Inclusive Social Development in the Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DISD/UNDESA) to contribute to the Multi-stakeholder Dialogue on the Role of Sport in Addressing Inequalities in Times of Crisis and Recovery. The outcome of the dialogue helped shape the 2022 Secretary-General Report on Sport for Development and Peace presented to the UN General Assembly in September of 2022.
Also a Bonner Scholar at TCNJ, Campbell commits hundreds of hours to volunteering both in and out of his soccer season, including work with charities and non-profit organizations such as St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Community Food Bank of New Jersey, Covenant House of New Jersey, and TOPSoccer. In addition to his work both as a student-athlete and volunteer, Campbell also works at Johnson & Johnson as part of a Spring Finance Co-Op.
Athletes For a Better World was founded in June 1998. The organization arose out of a need for positive mentoring of young student-athletes in the sports marketplace. As a result, ABW staff, and members have been working to create a sports environment where student-athletes, coaches, fans, and parents provide leadership that makes an identifiable and measurable difference in society. ABW has a commitment to the positive values of discipline, integrity, respect, cooperation, and compassion which form the cornerstone of our existence.
