COLORADO SPRINGS, CO - Rowan's Aurelia McManis has been named the NFHCA Division III Defensive Player of the Week for September 30 for her efforts in the Profs' three road victories over ranked teams in the previous week. Sydney Kowalczyk earned Honorable Mention for Offensive Player of the Week.
This is a first-ever national honor for McManis, who also received the NJAC Defensive Player of the Week award for the first time in her career.
The senior defender totaled two goals, two assists and one defensive save in the Profs' three wins over ranked teams. She scored the Profs' first goal in the 3-2 overtime win at #24 Swarthmore to start the week. McManis assisted on Mia Foti's gamewinner with less than five minutes left in 2-1 win at #25 Lynchburg while also posting a defensive save in the third quarter.
Kowalczyk, also named the NJAC Offensive Player of the Week, had two goals and one assist in the three wins. The sophomore scored Rowan's first goal in the win at Lynchburg and had the game-winning goal with 1:15 to play in the 3-2 victory at Washington and Lee.
Rowan (6-3) has now won six in a row and has returned to the NFHCA Coaches' Poll with a national ranking of #23 after wins over #24 Swarthmore, #25 Lynchburg and #17 Washington and Lee.
The Profs return home this evening to host Messiah at 6 p.m. and open defense of their conference title on Friday night against Ramapo.
