PITMAN—William Paterson University senior Brittany LaBruna and Rutgers University-Camden freshman Danielle Lemma have been named the New Jersey Athletic Conference Women’s Tennis Player and Rookie of the Year respectively for the 2016 conference season. Their selections highlighted the 13-member 2016 NJAC Women’s Tennis All-Conference Team which was announced on November 16. All selections were made by a vote of the league’s seven head coaches and were based on conference-only match results.
LaBruna was named the NJAC Player of the Year for the fourth consecutive season after posting a perfect 6-0 record in NJAC top-flight singles play for the fourth year in a row. A four-time NJAC Player of the Week selection during the 2016 season, she posted a perfect 24-0 record in NJAC top-flight singles play during her career, having never lost a set in conference competition. LaBruna also posted a 5-1 record in top-flight NJAC doubles play with freshman teammate Kaworu Ishikawa during her senior campaign.
A two-time NJAC Rookie of the Week selection, Lemma wrapped up her first conference season with a 4-2 record in NJAC singles competition playing primarily at the second position. She also teamed with freshman teammate Annalise Kipp to produce first doubles conference wins over opponents from Rutgers-Newark and Kean.
Stockton University head coach Harry Silverstein was selected as the Flo Labenski NJAC Coach of the Year by his peers. Picked to finish third in the NJAC preseason coaches’ poll, Silverstein led the Ospreys to an NJAC runner-up finish with a 5-1 league mark en route to an 8-1 fall record overall. In three seasons at the helm of the Stockton program, Silverstein has guided the Ospreys to an overall record of 27-13.
