Rowan Claims the 2015 NJAC Women's Outdoor Track & Field Championship

MAHWAH—The Rowan women’s outdoor track & field team captured the 2015 NJAC Outdoor Track and Field Championship for their third conference crown in the past four years. The Profs defeated a pool of eight other competing conference teams with 241 points, 58 points above the second place team (link to full results).

Rowan’s Shailah Williams took the crown in the 100-meter dash.  She crossed the finish line in 11.97.  Williams also placed first in the 200-meter dash in 24.36 seconds, a meet record. Rowan again captured a first place showing, this time in the 400-meter dash.  Melirah Searcy crossed the finish line in 56.57 seconds for the championship crown.  Jessalynn Wright placed first in the 800-meter run in 2:16.06, while Catherine Dougherty of Rowan placed first in the 1,500-meter run in a time of 4:42.30.  Dougherty also earned the crown in the 5,000-meter run.  She crossed the finish line in a time of 10:31.70.  Christin Bettis of Rowan won the 10,000-meter run in 37:50.00, while Jassina Surles posted a time of 15:16 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles for Stockton.  The 400-meter hurdles went to Rowan’s Searcy in 1:01.49 and Rowan’s Dougherty won the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 11:13.51. 

Rowan’s 4x100 meter relay team, made up of Williams. Wright, Kelly Vogt, and Lexxus Matos, took home the championship crown as they crossed the finish line in a combined 47.76 seconds.  Tashay Wilson, Wright, Brianna Angellella, and Searcy also placed 1st in the 4x400 meter relay in a combined effort time of 3:48.70, a meet record.  

In the field, The College of New Jersey’s Brigit Roemer won the high jump as she cleared 1.64 meters, while Stockton’s Chelsea Vaughan won the pole vault clearing 3.67 meters.  Jassina Surles of Stockton won the long jump with a mark of 5.41 meters and Rowan’s Jewel Brown won the triple jump hitting 11.73 meters.  The shot put went to Nataya Harris of Montclair.  She hit 11.86 meters for ten points.  Ashley Canty of Rutgers Newark won the discus throw in 39.50 meters and Jessica Radich of Stockton took the crown in the hammer throw with a mark of 45.70 meters.  Ramapo’s Alexis Appezzato won the javelin throw.  She hit a meet record mark of 47 meters flat, as fellow teammate Cristina Cristea won the crown in the heptathlon as she collected a meet record 4,231 points overall.
