Rowan Captures the 2015 NJAC Men's Outdoor Track & Field Championship

MAHWAH--With a winning score of 223 points, the Rowan men captured the 2015 NJAC Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Championship for their first conference outdoor title since 2007. The Profs’ winning mark was 64 points clear of the second place finisher TCNJ (full results). 

Justyce Pollitt of Rowan won the 100-meter dash in 10.87 seconds while Rasheed Amilcar of Montclair State took home the crown in the 200-meter dash in 21.82.  The 400-meter dash went to Mario Mayen of St, Joe’s LI.  He won the race in 48.45 seconds.  Ramapo’s Jeremy Hernandez placed first overall in the 800-meter run.  He clocked in at 1:51.02.  Hernandez also won the 1,500-meter run as he crossed the finish line in 3:53.71, a time that goes down as a meet record.  Junior Paul Juelis of Ramapo was crowned champion in the 5,000-meter run as he clocked in at 15:11.40, and Jonathan Sewig of Rowan placed first overall in the 10,000-meter run in 31:52.78.

The 110-meter hurdles went to Rowan’s David Benjamin in 14.79 seconds and the 400-meter hurdles also went to a Prof, Anthony Salemo, who clocked in at 54 seconds flat.  Rowan’s Pat McCurry won the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 9:23.94 and Montclair’s 4x100 meter relay team, made up of Amilcar, Bajee Rasul, Jonathan Feigin and James Cham, took the 1st place ribbon in 41.99 seconds.  Montclair also won the crown in the 4x400 where Rasul, Trayvonne Jones, Cham, and Amilcar combined efforts for ten points in a time of 3:14.20.

In the field, Jeffrey Jon Tucker of Rowan took the high jump clearing 2.03 meters while Ramapo’s Calvin Hartman won the pole vault clearing 4.35 meters.  The long jump went to Jared Lewis of Stockton. He hit 6.85 meters as he also took home the trophy in the triple jump hitting 14.45 meters.  Montclair’s Mattew Santangelo won the shot put.  He hit a mark of 14.29 meters, while Michael Begen of Ramapo won the discus throw hitting 43.19 meters.  Harun Saleh of Rutgers Newark placed 1st in the hammer throw.  He hit 52.70 meters for a meet record, while Rob Kessler of Montclair took home the crown in the javelin with a mark of 60.42 meters.  The men’s decathlon winner went to Rowan’s Sam Maniglis with 5,839 points, another meet record in the books.
