PITMAN—William Paterson University junior Brittany LaBruna and Ramapo College freshman Tamila Kadyer-Akhunova have been named the New Jersey Athletic Conference Women’s Tennis Player and Rookie of the Year respectively for the 2015 conference season. Their selections highlighted the 13-member 2015 NJAC Women’s Tennis All-Conference Team which was announced on November 18. All selections were made by a vote of the league’s seven head coaches and were based on conference-only match results.
LaBruna was named the NJAC Player of the Year for the third consecutive season after posting a perfect 6-0 record in NJAC top-flight singles play. A five-time NJAC Player of the Week selection during the 2015 season, she has posted a perfect 18-0 record in NJAC top-flight singles play throughout her first three seasons. LaBruna also posted a 4-2 record in top-flight NJAC doubles play during her junior campaign.
A two-time NJAC Rookie of the Week selection, Kadyer-Akhunova wrapped up her first conference season with a 3-1 record in NJAC second singles play. She also teamed with three different Roadrunners during the league season to produce a 3-1 mark in NJAC doubles play.
Kean University head coach Jodi Valenti was selected as the Flo Labenski NJAC Coach of the Year by her peers. Picked to finish fifth in the NJAC preseason coaches’ poll, Valenti led the Cougars to a fourth-place conference finish en route to an 8-5 record overall. In three seasons at the helm of the Kean program, Valenti has guided the Cougars to an overall record of 22-18.
