PITMAN--The College of New Jersey’s sophomore forward Alison Jaeger and senior back Kelly Mitchell have been named the first-ever New Jersey Athletic Conference Women’s Lacrosse Attack and Defensive Players of the Year. Their selections highlighted the 19-member 2009 NJAC women’s lacrosse all-conference team which was announced on May 6. All selections were made by a vote of the conference’s five head coaches following the conclusion of the first season of conference play.
A three-time Player of the Week selection, Jaeger garners the conference’s first top offensive honor after leading the NJAC in game-winning goals (5). She also ranks second in the league in goals per game (3.35), draw controls per game (3.35), and free position goals per game (0.65). Jaeger currently ranks fourth in the NJAC in points per game (4.24), and seventh in assists per game (0.88).
Mitchell, who earned NJAC Field Hockey Defensive Player of the Year honors for the second straight season earlier in the year, was also honored as the league’s top lacrosse defender after anchoring TCNJ’s defense which ranks first in the conference and in all of NCAA Division III in team goals against average (6.18). Mitchell also is a key cog in a Lions’ defense which has limited its opponents to only 105 goals in 17 games played.
The College of New Jersey’s senior midfielder Katie Reuther was selected as the first-ever NJAC Midfielder of the Year after garnering the same award in field hockey. She currently ranks second in the NJAC in assists per game (1.69), fifth in points per game (3.06), and sixth in draw controls per game (2.75).
TCNJ’s sophomore net-minder Mary Waller was tapped as the first-ever NJAC Goaltender of the Year. A three-time NJAC Defensive Player of the Week selection, Waller currently ranks fourth in the NJAC in goals against average (6.43) and fifth in save percentage (.441).
Lions’ freshman Kathleen Notos was selected as the Rookie of the Year after earning a first-team all-conference selection at her midfield position. A four-time NJAC Rookie of the Week selection, Notos currently ranks seventh in the conference in caused turnovers per game (1.18), eighth in draw controls per game (2.29), and 17th in goals per game (1.59).
After leading TCNJ to the inaugural NJAC women’s lacrosse championship with a perfect 4-0 record in conference play, Lions’ head coach Sharon Pfluger was selected as the first-ever NJAC Women’s Lacrosse Coach of the Year by her peers. Now in her 23rd year at the helm of TCNJ’s women’s lacrosse program, Pfluger has guided the Lions to an overall record of 350-30-1 during her tenure in Ewing.
