EWING—The Kean University softball team won its first New Jersey Athletic Conference title in program history by defeating Richard Stockton, 3-0 in the 2010 NJAC Championship Game. The win also gave the Cougars the league’s automatic bid to the 2010 NCAA Tournament.

PITMAN--Rowan sophomore outfielder Nicolina Veneziano and TCNJ’s senior right-hander Ashley Minervini have been named the New Jersey Athletic Conference Softball Player and Pitcher of the Year respectively for the 2009 season. Their selections highlighed the 32-member 2010 NJAC all-conference softball team that was announced on May 6. All selections were made via a vote of the league’s 10 head coaches.

EWING—With a 1-0 victory over Rutgers-Newark on April 10, TCNJ head softball coach Sally Miller collected her 400th career coaching victory. With the first win, Miller became the 45th NCAA Division III coach all-time and the 33rd active Division III coach to reach the 400-win plateau. Miller, who is in her 15th season at the helm of TCNJ’s program, has a career coaching mark of 401-180-2.

POMONA--Richard Stockton head softball coach Val Julien won her 400th career game as the Ospreys swept a doubleheader against Baruch on April 1. With the wins, Julien became the 44th NCAA Division III coach all-time and just the 32nd active Division III coach to reach the 400-win plateau.

PITMAN--After capturing the NJAC championship and advancing to the finals of the NCAA Tournament Mahwah Regional in 2009, William Paterson University was selected as the 2010 preseason softball favorite in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. The Pioneers will be seeking their fifth league title since the inception of softball as a NJAC championship sport back in 1983.

MONTCLAIR--Montclair State Assistant Director of Athletics and head softball coach Anita Kubicka was presented with one of the two Honor Awards at the New Jersey Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (NJAIAW) National Girls and Women in Sport Day Celebration which was held at Seton Hall University on February 7. Kubicka becomes the fourth Montclair State honoree joining Carol Blazejowski, former softball coach Donna Olson and current Director of Athletics Holly Gera as recipients of the award.

SOUTH ORANGE—Ten NJAC student-athletes were honored as institutional Women of the Year at the New Jersey Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (NJAIAW) National Girls and Women in Sport Day Celebration which was held at Seton Hall University on February 7. Over 870 individuals braved a heavy winter snowstorm to pay tribute to achievements by female student-athletes throughout the State of New Jersey.

JERSEY CITY—NJCU head softball coach Bridgette Quimpo was selected as a presenter at the 2009 National Fastpitch Coaches Association National Convention in Nashville, TN on December 11. Quimpo, who has served as a national clinician during her coaching career, presented the outfield drills portion of the NFCA’s on-field demonstration of the panel “Drills, Drills, Drills.”
