PITMAN--The New Jersey Athletic Conference Board of Athletic Administrators has announced that it will reinstate men's swimming & diving as a conference championship sport for the 2008-09 academic year.

NJAC bylaws specify that a minimum of five member institutions must sponsor a sport on the varsity level for the conference to sponsor a championship in that sport. With the recent elevation of men's swimming & diving to varsity status at Ramapo College, the NJAC will now have five institutions which sponsor the sport on the varsity level - Kean, Montclair State, Ramapo, Rowan, TCNJ and William Paterson.

The conference will not sponsor a championship meet in the sport, but will determine a champion based on round robin meet results. The league all-conference selections will be based on performances at the Metropolitan Swimming Conference Championships.

The NJAC last crowned a champion in men's swimming & diving in 1994-95, when TCNJ captured its second consecutive conference title.

The championship was eliminated in the 1995-96 academic year when the membership fell below five institutions. Over the years, the conference has crowned 15 champions in men's swimming & diving dating back to 1972-73. Rowan University (formerly Glassboro State College) has captured 13-of-the-15 all-time championships in the sport.
